Meet the Definitely Not for the Birds Team

A quick introduction: our names are Heidi V and Rachel B., and we are the two readers/reviewers behind the blog.  I originally started the blog as a way to just talk about books whenever I wanted to.  I also really wanted to find an audience that was just as excited about reading as I was and still am.  I asked my good friend and reader extraordinaire, Heidi, to join and she agreed.

I have an English degree and was previously a freelance book editor.  Heidi is in graduate school, studying Pharmacy, and has done a lot of writing on the side.  We both truly love reading, discovering new authors/talents, and talking with fellow readers.  We read just about everything, too.  This blog is not associated with any specific genre. We really hope that you find something interesting while you are here.  Thanks for visiting us!

Heidi’s Best Read of 2012: I’d already read the first four books years ago, but over the summer I read all five books in A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin.

Heidi’s Most Ambitious Reading Goal for 2013:  Finally reading the entire Bible

Rachel’s Best Read of 2012: The Perks of Being a Wallflower & Any Human Heart.

Rachel’s Most Ambitious Reading Goal for 2013: Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, and I am going to try to read A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce yet again.

A thank you to Stephanie B. for her guest review to the site.  Stephanie is a good friend and a marketing/communications maven who is a vivacious reader, and we were thrilled to get her point of view on one of the more recently published novels, J. K. Rowling’s  The Casual Vacancy.
